Gratitude ~ the 4th stepping stone ♥️ This wee Gratitude ~ the 4th stepping stone ♥️

Why is it so hard to go out on a limb and express gratitude and appreciation for those closest to heart? Why do we withhold our love and giving thanks to those we love the most?
The simple truth is, the more we care, the greater the risk. In other words, the more we love, the more we could potentially be rejected, hurt and in turn, suffer.
When we open our hearts to those within our tight circle and take that leap to extend thanks and love, it feels highly vulnerable. It takes great courage to drop the facade and melt the walls that keep us safe. Being forthcoming can make us feel small and needy, exposed and vulnerable. Why? Because more often than not, when we expose ourselves, we expect something in return, and that return is SECURITY. When we say, ''I appreciate you'', we want to know that it is reciprocated and stated so.
The truth is that for gratitude to be graciously gratuitous it must be free from any conditioning or the desire to be securely reciprocated. Gratitude is the language of the heart, not the mind.
When appreciation and gratitude are expressed from our hearts to those that are in the epicentre of our relationships, we liberate not the beneficiary, but ourselves. We free our hearts from the protective binds that keep us from experiencing joy. Applying gratitude from the heart, unsolicitedly and spontaneously, awakens our vulnerability as it empowers our human connection.
When we take the practice of extending gratitude to those we love the most, we start slowly and easily. This might be done by noticing what we have previously taken for granted. We begin to notice the little things that they do or say or the way we feel in their presence. We begin by giving thanks for the simple things- like dinner, random favours and moving toward more challenging territory like thanking them for listening and their support. Finally, we ...
that person doesn't have to be your partner or som that person doesn't have to be your partner or someone else where the risk of rejection could run high. You might not know this person's name but something about them has impacted your day or life in even the smallest of ways. I once told my dentist whom I didn't know on a first-name basis how blessed I felt to have discovered her office because I always felt good in her presence.

As I listened intently to a close friend share his challenges at work, I felt a sudden call to interrupt. Out of the blue, totally out of context, unsolicited and without any expectation for any reciprocated response, I heard myself saying, ''Do you know how much I appreciate you and our friendship? You are so important to me and I am so grateful for you and what we share. Thank you for being my dear friend.'' It was so random, so spontaneous that I didn't have time to blush. There was a long pause on the other end of the phone. He said, ''uh-huh'' and went back to his monologue about work. Knowing him, I knew that my words had reached his heart. I smiled because I knew that my expression of gratitude, although it seemed to be for him was ultimately for me. Suddenly, something shifted inside me. Something released, something opened. My heart felt incredibly expansive with boundless tingling sensations of immense joy and love that knew no boundaries, no limits.

That next morning, my dear friend left his body.

As we continue our yoga practise on our mat, working through the various states of Gratitude, we strengthen the muscle of our spiritual heart one step at a time, one experience after another. It is nothing more than a practice with nowhere to go and nothing really to achieve and yet as we practice, the walls of defence soften brick by brick.

Again, meet me on the mat, online, to practice the third stepping stone of KRIT ANJA ~ Gratitude

I had a childhood friend who lost her father to su I had a childhood friend who lost her father to sudden death. She was in the 5th grade; her Dad was in his late thirties. Above and beyond his unexpected death, the saddest part of this story was that she had angrily stormed off to school without saying goodbye, without telling him that she loved him. Just hours later she was called into the principal's office to learn that her father had died in an accident on his way to work.

I never forgot this story and how it made me feel and yet, there have been countless times I too have walked away hurt and angry without saying goodbye.

Here's the thing. When our emotions are running rampant it's difficult to remember how much we appreciate and love the person standing in front of us; and even harder to tell them. Being forthcoming with our appreciation and gratitude for others takes lots of practice. This is the path of Gratitude.

Gratitude then becomes a verb that asks us to apply it when, and as often as we can. Because we conveniently forget to practice gratitude during an emotional meltdown, we can begin the practise slowing, step by step.

The practise begins with the white belt which offers us baby steps in the right direction. We begin the practice of expressing gratitude and appreciation in those moments when we feel safe, connected and in sync with that person. This is when it is so easy to say, '' I so appreciate you. Thank you for making a difference. ''

That person doesn't have to be your partner or someone else where the risk of rejection could run high. You might not know this person's name but something about them has impacted your day or life in even the smallest of ways. I once told my dentist whom I didn't know on a first-name basis how blessed I felt to have discovered her office because I always felt good in her presence.

''Tis the season to be jolly'' and yet for many it is a painful reminder of the loss of loved ones, the nostalgic memory of how life was BEFORE COVID and our magnified feelings of solitude.

When we are faced with unsettling uncertainties and challenging changes we naturally and humanly build walls, walls that protect from FEELING too much. Our walls of armour keep FEAR and PAIN from touching our vulnerable hearts but these walls paradoxically keep us from FEELING the LOVE, JOY & ABUNDANCE that life has to offer.

In the midst of uncomfortableness, we might consciously choose INDIFFERENCE, to remain UNTOUCHABLE, but in due time our heart suffocates and eventually, it dies. Once the walls are solidified it is difficult to break them down again and yet, there is an attainable road map that can lead you back to your HEART where life beats in its magical ways.

When we notice the building of walls we can consciously choose to apply the wisdom of PATANJALI, the great sage and scholar of the Yoga Sutras. His wisdom can support us in breaking down the walls of protection and allow the heart to regain its sovereignty of LOVE.

His simple yet potent remedy,

''WANT WHAT YOU HAVE AND YOU HAVE WHAT YOU WANT''

when consciously applied, could be the antidote to your heavy heart, the antidote to depression, loneliness, jealousy, injustice, indifference, disappointment, greed, suffering and envy.

By wanting what you have, you instantaneously reverse the downward spiral of craving what you don't have. Suddenly, you began to see things from a different perspective and come to the realisation that you are truly blessed. Satisfaction, or SAMTOSHA in Sanskrit, is a state of being, a state of feeling whole with what you have and who you are. As a verb, SAMTOSHA becomes a mindset where you can ultimately choose to see your current situation from the vantage point of satisfaction or dissatisfaction. It is your choice.

This is the beginning to cultivating an attitude of gratitude even for the slippery stepping stones that appear to be hurdles on your path. Because ... cont below #gratitude #yogainspiration

These sacred words become our guidance into the New Year, words to reflect on, let go of, integrate into our lives, and finally allow them to show us, teach us what we need to understand. One by one we choose and then, the magic begins. 🌟💛

What does it mean for you to be fully in the NOW? What does it mean for you to be fully in the NOW? 💛
Everything that we do in our practice leads us to the present moment. Feeling and sensing our way through the asanas, we notice how the body opens and releases tension, lightness fills the space we are. Like this, it is simple and even pleasurable to be in the NOW and hard not to want MORE of it.

But what happens to our present moment when we feel challenged and confronted with uncomfortable feelings, when our body experiences discomfort, when our heart feels heavy?

We close down, run for shelter, distract with random busyness and soothe with instant appeasers that keep us feeling too much.

I am in the midst of this NOW.
My past few weeks have been full, 💛
full of packing 💛
full of UNDOING the creation of O2yoga💛
full boxing up the remnants the centre💛
full of mixed emotions and uncertainties 💛
and
full of not wanting to be present. 💛

My loyal teacher (my practice & my life) is showing me how
I'm NOT ok with being in the Now when its not going MY way. It draws my attention to the knot in my throat that squelches the tears and the tightness in my hips from the unstable grounds that I walk upon. It reminds me that I have existed the present moment and landed in some faraway place called NOT HERE. 💛

So I am back on my mat day in and day night allowing my teacher to show me how to breathe into NOW and give space for what IS without resistance but with some form of a humble welcome. 💛

If you find yourself running from the present moment, or trying to negotiate with it to give you a break, join me this week to collectively work with this ''being in the present moment thing'', because this is all we really have , and this too shall pass.

See you 💛

We are all in this together. 💕It might not feel We are all in this together. 💕It might not feel this way when we ponder our individual calamities of health issues, financial worries & the uncertainties of today, but the naked truth is, these concerns are OUR concerns on a global level. 🌏

Allowing our hearts❤️ to open to our own pains and sorrows instead of creating more walls of separation, opens our hearts to others. We come to understand that in our fears and pains we are not alone. There are millions, if not all of humanity, that has at least once in their span of life felt the same pain, experienced the same fear as us. This reminder soothes- you are not alone.

On the flip side, when we are feeling confident and loving we can remember that there are others in distress and pain somewhere in the world, maybe in our own backyard. We can share our good vibes with them in these moments of uncertainty. This is a opening to humanity.

No matter where you are today, at this moment, in pain and in fear, in joy and in happiness there is a space that exists. This space is the space that is found between your heart and your choice of action. This space is the space between you and others. This space is the space that holds feeling, feeling life in its fullest embodiment. It is a soft and tender space of vulnerably and humanness. It is within this space that change can manifest, that magic can happen. 🌟🌟

Take a deep breath and bring the breath into the centre of your chest. Hold the breath and allow it to expand, expanding to the sensations and feelings that are present. Whether they are of joy or of pain, exhale out understanding-- ''I've been there before'' and compassion for those- all of us😇, that have been there before.

This week- ONLINE- we will be working with the spaces ''in between'' and softening the edges of our jagged hearts, bringing an understanding, we are not alone in this global uncertainty.
